What Is The God Wall?
Getting Older Makes You Think
I had my 67th birthday November 2009. I’m sort of semi-retired you might say, although I still work at things I enjoy doing. When you get to be my age you begin thinking about the years you may have remaining. Frankly, I’ve been thinking about what I really want to do with what I have left!
How many days or years do I have left? Who knows. I could have 5 minutes, 5 years or maybe as many as 20 years left. Certainly not more than 20 (I hope). Let’s just say I’ve reached an age where the end is no longer a theoretical possibility that may happen at some point too distant to worry about. When you reach that point in life you begin to think in terms of significance and purpose and what you might do that can have some meaning and provide real value to others. After thinking about all of that I decided this blog is what I want to do. A blog is a great way to share things you have on your mind. It doesn’t matter, how many read it. It only matters that I do it and if it has value, people will find it and receive benefit. I like that. No pressure!
What is The God Wall?
I developed the term God Wall to represent the challenges people face in their search for spiritual truth. Today, people seek God in the same way they look for any other product. They shop the competition and look for the best deal. This gets complicated because the smorgasbord of spiritual alternatives is as diverse as any consumer market.
How can anyone wade through all of the conflicting spiritual ideas and identify those which are really true? Many have resolved this problem by coming to believe truth can be different for all people and be acceptable. Just like buying a product. If people are happy with the product and they think it will do what they want it to, they will hang on to it until they find something they like better. We think we can make God into our image. Eventually, honesty crowds us to give up this idea and when that happens answers become more challenging.
When I was trying to ascend and climb over The God Wall it soon became obvious that I had no solid concept of not only who God might be, but what He was really like. I had a lot of questions for which I sought answers:
1. Was God an individual personality, who thinks and acts? Or, was God some kind of all-permeating force, or generic power? Obviously, God could not be both!
2. What is God’s purpose for human beings? Or, Does God have a purpose for human beings? Unless I could see an overall purpose of God for humanity, the world, and the universe, how could I ever hope to see His purpose for me? I felt the answer should be specific.
3. Is God involved in my daily life experiences? If so, on what basis? If He is, how do I know it?
4. Does God care about what I do, and how I live? If so, what is important and what is not important?
5. Is there life after death? What happens after death?
6. Is it possible to really understand God and relate that understanding to my own life, personally?
7. At a very deep level, why was I afraid of God?
8. Can a human being, from their own reason, logic, and thinking, reach any valid, factual conclusions about the nature of God?
9. How does, or how has God revealed Himself in a way I can understand and accept?
These questions left unanswered are the substance of The God Wall.
In the 30 years that have slipped by since I began to seriously think about spiritual things, The God Wall has grown as a term and means a lot more than I originally thought it meant. The God Wall is all we create and allow to be created that separates us from the real truth about anything! The God Wall is a reality for every human being and climbing over it is the single most important thing any person can do in their life.
It is my hope that this blog will help those who have the desire to climb over The God Wall be successful.
