How Are You Doing?

We humans are performance based creatures in the way we think and walk in our flesh.  We evaluate how well things are going based on whether we think we are doing good and performing well.  Most businesses have annual performance reviews for their employees to measure how well everyone is doing and if they are supporting company goals and policies.  These performance reviews involve checklists of behavior against some common standards and the expectations of leadership and management.  Far too many Christians approach their Christianity in the same way.  We determine the quality of our relationship with God based on how well we believe we are performing.  Performing means attending church, reading the Bible, tithing, witnessing to the lost, working on church committees and all of the other things we believe good Christians are supposed to do.  None of these things are bad and an internal Christian will probably do the same things.  The difference is that the internal Christian does them from a completely different mindset and they are not issues of performance.  They are the fruits of being like Christ.  External Christians chase after God in their flesh.  Internal Christians walk with God in the Spirit.
