Three Holy Lies

God has a single purpose for every Christian and it is the same for all.  He has promised to conform us into the image of His Son, which requires the crucifixion of self.  God’s will is not that we discover some unique purpose for our lives so we can be happy, successful and get what we want in this life!   We please God by learning to live by faith and becoming obedient as He chips away everything about us that does not look like Jesus.

What exactly is a Holy Lie?  I define a Holy Lie as something I believe to be true that is not true, that puts me in opposition to that which is Holy.   In this context, Holy is God.  Can something Holy be a lie?  Of course not, but, if God is truth, every lie has Holy implications.  The Three Holy Lies of which I speak have serious Holy implications because they support and perpetuate the sin nature of men and women.  They are foundational lies that justify and sustain human rebellion against God and fuel the sins of self.    The Three Holy lies are:

  1. I can define truth.
  2. I can define God.
  3. I can define right and wrong.

When we believe a lie is true, the conclusions we reach based on that lie are flawed.   When the lie is one of the Three Holy Lies the flaws have long-term spiritual consequences.  Human dissatisfaction, relationship problems and spiritual stagnation can all be placed at the doorstep of the Three Holy Lies.  Whether the symptoms be addiction, divorce, anger, or depression,  the Three Holy Lies drive and support the specific sins that result in the symptoms.    The Three Holy Lies block spiritual growth and our ability to be pleasing to God.

Now more than ever, the church in America needs mature believers who can strengthen and disciple each other in accordance with God’s true purposes.  Understanding and overcoming the destructive power of the Three Holy Lies will produce real spiritual growth that leads to maturity.
